Outline of the 3rd Element Strategy Initiative: To Form Core Research Centers Symposium on the Elements Strategy Large-scale Research FacilitiesToward the understanding of the mechanisms of material functionalities inspired by new theories, and their industrial applications

Over the past five years, what sort of new theories have been created and what sort of impact has been exerted on materials science by the Elements Science and Technology Project? The symposium will introduce the results of the four centers where practical implementation in society is anticipated, as well as some highlights of the issues in Japan’s elements strategy. While exploring the direction of materials science research in the future, it will also encourage fusion between industry, government and academia and other scientific fields.

Objectives 1) Publicizing of the results of elements strategy research
In addition to the results of each of the Elements Strategy Initiative centers, highlights of research results concerning elements strategy throughout Japan will be introduced.
2) Promotion and diffusion of cutting-edge science and technology
Analysis, analytical technology, application software and hardware, computational science using databases and data science methods using large research facilities utilized and developed to solve elements strategy issues will be introduced. The promotion and difusion of these will also be attempted.
3) Encouragement of industry, academia and government collaboration
Lectures will be presented on cases studies that link in with industrial utilization, and participants will learn the essential fact that “industry is the school of learning.” A forum will be provided in which participants will be able to interact and exchange opinions in order to create a research system that maintains an awareness of the bonds between society and industry on an ongoing basis.
